A new challenge...

Sat Jan 19, 2008, 7:42 AM
Why do I always make goals for myself that I know I can't accomplish?

So it was Thursday evening; I was lying peacefully in my bed, watching Dark City, and almost fell asleep several times. But suddenly (as I re-watched the movie with the audio commentary) I found myself feeling oddly inspired. So I grabbed the first piece of paper I could find and began sketching what would become 6 pages of a comic version of a story I've been writing.

o_O

I can't draw people, I can't draw backgrounds, I can't colour, and I can't shade! Why on earth would I ever even try to attempt doing a comic? x3 Another thing is that the story won't translate very well into images because it's mostly told from a first-person perspective, which means I'll have to rewrite the entire thing. It's just crazy.

But it's a good challenge for me :P Just the past 24 hours I've learnt more about Photoshop than I have in the three years I've had the program. And although I know that whatever comes from this won't be great, it'll be good practice. If nothing more I'll probably learn to have a lot of patience, cause I'm pretty sure every panel will take me at least 10-15 hours.

The worst part is probably gonna be designing the characters, though... but the first three-four panels doesn't really have persons in them (well, in fact there are body parts in each and every one of them, but nothing I can't find a way around) so I'll put that off for a couple of days.

I'm not as negative about this as I might sound :D Actually, I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to spending hours of hours of doing and redoing the walls in the first picture.

Only glad to be of service in that matter, hehe ;)

I'm still looking around your gallery, trying to figure out how to phrase the amazement I'm feeling. I really, really love your style. It has such a chaotic and deep feeling to it. Can't wait to see what you're gonna come up with next.

So... yeah, much praise for you and your work. Rock on.

No problem! Your comic is really interesting and different from most things I've seen around DA. Love the style and your colouring :)
